Consign > Tagging
NEW Spring 2012
- Limit: 200 clothing items and 10 pairs of shoes per consignor. A multiple-piece outfit that is priced as a set counts as one item. NOTE: There is not a limit on toys, equipment, books, etc...
- DO NOT use Zip-top plastic bags for clothing; including pajamas and onesies. We have found that shoppers do not buy items that they can not fully see. All clothing items must be on hangers. Please consider grouping multiple onesies together on hangers.
- Tagging guns are acceptable. Please be sure to place barb through seams or in the inside tag of clothing items. Items that have been damage by barb or that have barbs attached directly into clothing, will not be accepted.
To tag your items you will need the following supplies:
- Child sized plastic hangers for children’s clothing
- Adult sized plastic hangers for tweens and maternity clothing
- White cardstock 60-67lb. for making tags (no copy paper- it doesn’t hold up)
- Scissors
- Tagging gun or Safety pins (no straight pins please, ouch!)
- Zip-top bags attach accessories and group small toys and other items together
- Zip-ties to pair shoes together
- Packing tape for attaching tags to toys, books, etc. (no scotch tape please, it will not stay on)

General Tagging Tips
- Place all garments on hangers with the hook facing to the left (so that it looks like a question mark).
- If you have a set, safety pin the set together before placing it on the hanger to ensure that they stay together. Keep those cute little hats, booties, and pants with their partners!
- Attach your tag when looking at the garment to the top right of each garment (left shoulder) with a safety pin.
- If you are using a tagging gun, please place the barb through a seam or the inside tag on a garment. We wil not accept any clothing items that have the barb placed directly in the clothing (due to damage).
- Toys and equipment should be securely tagged with packing tape across the top third of the tag.
- Do not place tape over the barcode.
- Items containing small parts may be placed in a Ziploc-type bag with the tag taped to the outside of the bag. Be sure to place the tape only on the top third of the tag so that you do not cover the barcode.
- If your item has more than one piece (ex. infant seat, stroller combo) attach a hand-written piece of paper to all pieces with your consignor number and description but attach the barcode on the first, most visible piece.
- Do NOT attach a barcode tag to each piece.
- Items such as bibs, burp clothes etc. can be grouped together with a large safety pin. These items will not be hung, they will be placed in labeled, item specific plastic containers.
Clothing
The better they look, the better they sell! Ironing is not required but pressed items look better than wrinkled ones.
- All clothing must be clean, hung and in excellent condition.
- Children sized hangers are preferred for sizes 10 and below, larger hangers are appropriate for tweens and maternity clothing. Plastic hangers can be purchased at discount stores, Wal-mart, dollar stores, etc.
- Items should be priced at a value of at least $2.00. Please group items together if necessary. For example, if you want to sell onesies and you wish to sell them for $.50 each, group four together and price the package at $2.00. Items (pants, shirts, onsies, etc.) may be pinned together on a hanger.
- All pants must be pinned to a hanger, NOT folded over, as they tend to end up on the floor. Please do not jam a hanger in a pair of pants, it could ruin the pants and they will not look appealing (remember you want them to sell). Larger safety pins work best for pinning pants on hangers as they go over the plastic hanger best.
- If you are selling a set, top and bottom, the best way to display it is to put them on separate hangers and rubber band the hangers together. This will make it very clear that they go together. The items must be visible without taking them off of the hanger; otherwise it is highly probable that they will end up on the floor.
- For items that have matching accessories (hats, booties, etc.), either pin the item to the hanging garment using a safety pin or place the item(s) in a Ziploc style bag and pin the bag to the hanging item. Please take special precautions to ensure these items do not come loose from the hanger.

$2.00 Clothing Rule
Do not price clothing items under $2.00. Toys, books, shoes and supplies can be priced under $2.00. If your single, hanging, clothing item cannot bring $2.00 on it's own, pair it with something similar and THE SAME SIZE that will bring it to this amount. We will be strictly enforcing this $2.00 minimum rule on clothing. (Ex: if you have a pair of play shorts that won't bring $2.00 by themselves put a same size shirt or another pair of shorts with it to entice someone to pay $2.00.)
Sporting Gear
Sporting gear sells well, please price it appropriately. If there are balls that go with an item, put them in Ziploc bags and tape them together with clear packing tape. As with all shoes, cleats and sporting shoes must be in good condition and clean. Spring/Summer Sale Only: Boating and swimming gear is very desirable. Please make sure that life jackets are in good working order and dry suits and spray tops do not have any tears. Fall/Winter Sale Only: Sleds, skis, ice skates and other snow toys are accepted.
Shoes
- Secure shoes together with zip-ties/ cable ties (best method) or ribbon by looping the cable-tie/ribbon through the shoelace hole or a strap (that can't be adjusted) on each shoe and tie them together.
- It is also helpful to write your consignor number on a piece of masking tape and affix it to the bottom of each shoe, in case the tag is separated during the sale.
Bedding
Hang bedding on large coat hangers or multiple wire hangers. Use a rubber band to attach multiple hangers if necessary.
Blankets
Hang and pin blankets over hangers so that shoppers can see them.
Toys, Furniture, Equipment
- All items must be clean and in good working order.
- If the item requires batteries, they must be included so that the buyers will know that it works. The dollar store batteries will be perfect for this purpose.
- All small parts must be bagged and attached to the main part very securely. Secure the bag by putting clear packing tape across the top and tape the tag to the bag – careful not to cover the barcode. It is also recommended that you write your consignor number and info on the Ziploc bag with a Sharpee pen in case the tag comes off.
- Games should be taped closed so that little hands can not get to them during the sale.
- When tagging large toys it is best to also attach a piece of masking tape to the toy with your consignor information. This will enable us to sell your toy even if the tag comes off.
- Puzzles should be wrapped securely in clear plastic wrap to keep the pieces intact.
- We do not accept stuffed animals unless they are battery operated and are licensed characters such as Barney, Elmo etc.
- Toys that are not packaged appropriately will be turned away.
Car Seats
If you are selling a car seat, it must have been manufactured within the past five years. Please check for date stamped on the bottom. It must not be subject to recall or have been in an accident. Car seats with lift up bars will not be accepted. All consignors who are selling car seats must print and fill out the Car Seat Checklist.
Half Price
When tagging your items, you will see in the barcoding where you determine if it goes Half Price the last day or if it stays Full Price. We suggest any item you are going to DONATE, be sure to try it Half Price before donating.
